About the Teacher Exchange Program

J1 Teacher Exchange
The Teacher Exchange Program is designed to foster cultural cooperation and skill sharing.
Participants will travel to the U.S. to learn American methods of working with children, immerse themselves in the local culture, and share their own cultural heritage with students and colleagues.

Eligibility

  • Meets the qualifications for teaching in their home country.
  • Is currently working as a teacher and have at least two years of full-time teaching experience within the past eight years.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in education or subject directly related to what they will be teaching in the US.
  • Have a signed offer letter from a host company in the US.
  • No criminal records

Host School Requirements

  • Must be an accredited public or private primary or secondary K-12 school, including pre-kindergarten language immersion programs.
  • Must provide a salary schedule and accreditation certificate.
  • Must complete the host school application process, which is sent after the teacher registers for the program.

Program duration

Exchange teachers may teach in the U.S. for a maximum of 5 years. They typically start with a 3-year program and may be eligible to extend their teaching contracts for an additional one or two years. After the program, teachers return to their home countries to share their experiences and newly acquired knowledge.

DS reprint fee: $200 (only if your DS needs to be updated after issuance).

Program Fees

First Year
J1: $3,800 (Application and first 90 days of insurance*)
J2: $1,750 (Covers the entire stay for spouse or children*)
DS reprint fee: $200 (only if your DS needs to be updated after issuance).

  • Mandatory insurance* is included—J1 covers the first 90 days, while J2 covers the entire stay.
  • SEVIS is not included.
  • The renewal fee will be charged yearly.

How To Apply

  1. Register online.
  2. Submit all required documents.
  3. Ensure your host school submits all required documents.
  4. Pay the program fee.
  5. Apply for your J-1 visa.
  6. Start the program.
