Program Overview
Gap-Bridge Japan: Cultural Immersion and School Internship Program is an immersive 11-day program designed to promote intercultural understanding and personal growth through Japanese language study and rich cultural experiences. Participants will gain insight into Japan’s education system through internships in preschool, primary schools, and high schools, while also engaging in hands-on cultural activities such as calligraphy, homestays, and traditional cooking. By experiencing Japan through all five senses, the program aims to provide a deeper appreciation of the country’s values and aesthetics—elements that often go beyond what words alone can express. Another unique highlight of the program is the opportunity to connect with Japanese university students and locals, fostering meaningful cultural exchange and friendships.

| Day 1 – September 3 (Wed): Arrival in Tokyo | After arriving in Japan, check in at your accommodation in Tokyo. |

| Day 2 – September 4 (Thu): Orientation, Japanese Language Lesson, Meiji Shrine & Harajuku Exploration | Learn practical Japanese phrases, discover the beauty of Japan and explore both its traditional and modern sides with Japanese university students. |
| Day 3 – September 5 (Fri): Calligraphy and Japanese Cooking Experience | Japanese Cooking Lesson: Cook a traditional oyako-don (chicken and egg rice bowl and learn about Japanese food culture through all five senses. Calligraphy Workshop: Practice calligraphy, using brush and ink to understand the aesthetic values of “shape” and “spirit” in Japanese writing. |
| Day 4 & 5 – September 6 (Sat) – September 7 (Sun): Stay with a Japanese host family. | Experience daily life, meals, conversations, and customs in a typical Japanese household, gaining a deeper understanding of Japanese family values and cultural practices. |
| Day 6 – September 8 (Mon): Kamakura Visit | Visit Kamakura, a historic city known for the Kamakura shogunate of the 13th century. Explore the Great Buddha (Kotoku-in), Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, and Hase-dera Temple, while learning about Zen culture and medieval Japanese history. You might even have the chance to experience a tea ceremony. Japanese university students will join the tour, an opportunity to make new friends! |
| Day 7 – September 9 (Tue): Elementary School and Preschool Internship | Internship Day 1: Observe and engage with students to gain insights into Japanese educational values, such as cooperation and social harmony. |
| Day 8 – September 10 (Wed): High School English Teaching Internship | Internship Day 2: Assist in an English class at a high school and support Japanese teachers with lesson plans, classroom activities, and teaching materials. |
| Day 9- September 11 (Thu): Chofukuji Temple | A peaceful Zen retreat in Yokohama, where you might have the opportunity to experience authentic meditation, surrounded by the beauty of the seasons in a historic temple setting. |
| Day 10-September 12(Fri): Trip to Mount Fuji | A trip to the 5th Station of Mount Fuji (2,300 meters above sea level) to experience breathtaking views and learn about the mountain’s volcanic activity and cultural significance. |
| Day 11 – September 13 (Sat): Program Conclusion | Return to Tokyo. Program Concludes / Departure. |
